The Andre Monroe Derouen Jr., Scholarship Fund was established July 2018 to honor the memory of Andre Derouen Jr, an 18-year-old student athlete who loved life and had a passion for sports.
A graduate of Hitchcock High School Andre, worked hard on and off the field. Andre was a part of the National Honor Society: Junior City Council and he was a varsity athlete who played both baseball and football. In his senior year Andre, was recognized as the Defensive MVP, All County Selection, Superior District Defense MVP for baseball, and he was All-District Selection for football. After high school, Andre's athletic career continued at Galveston College where he played for Coach Joblin, of the Whitecaps baseball team. Andre worked hard every day with dreams of continuing his baseball career.
Not only was Andre a great friend, but most of all he was a loving brother and son who love life. Andre gave his all to be good to others and pushed himself to be the best athlete and person he could be. His family would love to keep his memory alive by encouraging and supporting students who have made a positive impact in the community through athletics, community service, and leadership.
This scholarship was established for Andre's family and friends to recognize the dedication of a Galveston County high school student for their continued education and community service.
